Affinity Belonging Camp

2024 Registration

Tuesday July 2 through Sunday July 7, 2004
(Glendale, OR)

This is an official Network for a New Culture event, sponsored by the New Culture Institute, which is the nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that sponsors Summer Camp West.

The goal of Affinity Belonging Camp is to create a welcoming and healing space for people who identify as BIPOC and/or LGBTQIA+ and their allies. In order to create the camp we envision, we intend for our camp to be composed of at least:

  • 35 percent People of the Global Majority (PGM, aka BIPOC— Black, Indigenous, People of Color), and...

  • 35 percent LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bi, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, non-binary, gender nonconforming, and so many more amazing humans who identify beyond societal Hetero or Cis-gendered norms), and...

  • not more than 30 percent people who don't primarily identify with these groups and who are drawn towards this liberatory work.

We encourage all campers to join us in the weeks leading up to camp for an online training, How to be an Effective Ally, which will be led by Hema.

For those who've attended past NFNC camps, more sensitivity around full nudity is appreciated, especially by those privileged enough to feel fully comfortable in their nude bodies.

For any sensual/sexual program offerings, we'll move much more gradually and with greater care to set the container than has been the norm at other NFNC camps

If you are new to NFNC (Network for New Culture) events:

Camp Costs

The cost to attend this camp is a sliding scale of $450-$1,500.

We use a sliding scale so that people of all economic levels can attend. We hope everyone will contribute what is most generous and joyful for you, whatever your financial status, to help further this important work in our community and the world.

More about Equity Pricing:

In the spirit of our commitment to equity and belonging, we intend to make this camp available to anyone called to join us in this liberatory and healing work. We recognize that systems of oppression have made it difficult for many of us to discover and explore spaces where individual and collective transformation is possible. If you identify as a person who has been affected by the historical and persistent inequity of colonialism or one of the various forms of institutionalized discrimination, please take into consideration the amount of camperships we are offering when you decide the total pledge for your camp cost.

Campership awards will be distributed based on the following criteria, depending on funds available and the number of requests:

  • Up to $100 campership to anyone who requests financial assistance based on need.

In addition, the following campership amounts may also be awarded. People who identify with more than one of the following categories may request multiple campership awards to meet their financial needs:

  • Up to $100 for People of the Global Majority (aka Persons of Color or BIPOC).

  • Additional $50 for Black and/or Indigenous Americans in recognition of the historical inequity these communities have borne in this country.

  • Up to $100 for Trans/non-binary/gender-nonconforming persons.

  • $50 for people with disabilities.

  • $50 for people age 39 or under.

For example, if you and/or your family has either historically borne or is currently bearing the weight of marginalization and oppression as a Black or Indigenous American (-$150), and you also happen to be a Trans person (-$100) who has a disability (-$50) and is 39 or younger (-$50); consider subtracting about $350 from your full desired contribution to the cost of your camp.

Additional Notes:

  1. Any amount over $450 is considered a tax-deductible* donation to the ABCamp General Fund, which provides for both camperships and other forms of financial assistance, such as work-trade, for participants to attend this camp.

  2. Any funds remaining in the ABCamp General Fund after camp will be used to help fund future NFNC Affinity-Belonging events. Our intention is to build compassionate connections between people from different affinity groups, allies, and the NFNC community.

  3. If you're inspired and able to contribute additional donations beyond $1,500, please let us know in the donation section in the registration form, and we'll happily contact you with more information about how to make a major donation.

*Please contact us at registrarABC@networkfornewculture.org to request a donation receipt for tax deduction purposes.

We are excited to welcome you to camp! Make sure that you have read the FAQs before registering.
